Types Of Christ Prophesied In The Bible

By Stephanie Green

Jesus Christ is viewed as the only Son of God with no brother or sister. In fact, the only other mention made is that of an antichrist which is a reverse of what Christians expect in Jesus. However, it is possible to decipher different types of Christ that are collaborated in both the Old Testament and the New Testaments. Here is a look at the manifestations and what they mean for Christians.

Tree of Life. There is a lot of reference to the tree and life in the bible. Naturally, trees are homes to animals and birds. They also are sources of food in such forms as fruits and also shelter from storms and for nesting. Genesis 2,9 indicates that God planted a tree in the middle. Revelation 22,2 says that a tree is planted by the river and bears 12 fruits. Just like Jesus, the leaves become a source of healing to nations.

The Ark. Noah built the ark to save people from death and destruction as entered in Genesis chapter 7 verse 16. John chapter 10 verse 28 gives an account of Jesus who gives people life such that no one can snatch this life from them. Those who come to Jesus will not perish, just like those who entered the ark.

Passover Lamb. The Passover feast marked the salvation of Israelites from Egypt. It was blood from the lamb that was used on doors to keep away the angel of death as is written in Exodus chapter 12. John chapter 1 verse 29 captures the words of John the Baptist who upon seeing Jesus approaching him for baptism declared that Behold the Lamb of God who cleanses the sins of mankind. This is a direct mention of Jesus as the Lamb of God.

Manna. Israelites had trouble finding food in the desert. They received food in form of Manna from heaven as indicated in Exodus chapter 16. It is natural that without food there will be no life. The gospel captures Jesus declaring that he is the bread of life. The people who come to him will never go hungry or be thirsty. This is similar to the manna provided to Israelis. Those who ate manna had life.

The Rock from where life and salvation comes. As captured in Exodus 17, Moses was instructed to strike the rock for Israelites to drink. At the cross, Jesus oozed water and blood, a sign of life, from the speared ribs. Chapter 10 of the 1st Corinthians states that all people drank of a spiritual rock which was Christ.

The temple. The dwelling place of God was the temple. Without a temple, there was a feeling of emptiness. When Israelites built the temple in 1st Kings chapter 6, they were preparing for the presence of God to enable them get life. In John chapter 2, Jesus says that once the temple is destroyed, he will raise it in three days. He was pointing at his death.

The reflections of Jesus Christ in the old and new testaments are undeniable. They are so vivid that no one can mistake them. The corresponding evidence only points at Jesus the prophesied Son of God fulfilled in the New Testament.
