Things To Know About Failure To Launch Anxiety

By Diane Sullivan

Some parents might think that the moment their children turn 18, their duties as guardians will disappear immediately, and their child will instantly be ready to become an adult. However, nowadays this is often not the case, and parents have to be ready to fulfill their parenting role well past that age. This has become so widespread that it has been given its own name, failure to Launch anxiety.

It is hard not to feel judged when you are not feeling like you're succeeding at life, which is a common thing among people who have this problem. Some people hear the name of the syndrome and feel like it is a judgment in and of itself, but this should not be the case. This is merely a way of describing what is going on with this type of person.

People everywhere are starting to notice that more and more young adults are choosing to live at home with their parents for much longer than they used to. This is something that might be helpful for anyone going through this type of situation to learn about. This is because having others who are dealing with the same thing that you are often makes it easier to go through.

The first thing to understand with this type of syndrome is that is just describing people who are having trouble entering the phase of life known as adulthood. When people don't know how to stop being children, they might miss out on many big important things in life. That is why it is so important that this problem is dealt with as soon as possible.

Something that helps many people who are dealing with this kind of situation feel better about it is knowing that it is usually a huge blend of different factors that is really causing the issue. It can't be said that the blame should be laid on one individual person. This includes both the parents and the person who is going through it.

With a lot of people in this situation, it is very hard for them to admit they have a problem. This is usually the first step in getting them to seek help. Finding ways to approach the situation that don't make a person feel ganged up on can help them tremendously.

Most parents find it difficult to stop providing for their children even after they become adults. In many cases, this is what causes this type of syndrome. A parent must be able to turn off this instinct that they have been hardwired with.

When you transition into adulthood, there are so many skills that you have to learn, and this can be extremely overwhelming. It is best when children are given the opportunity to learn some of these as they're growing up. Otherwise they might have so many challenges to deal with at once when the time comes that they might withdraw from all of them.
