The Most Effective Meditation Technique

By Steven Williams

Meditation becomes a challenge because many people cannot concentrate. For others, it is the availability of adequate time, special resources like carpets or music or even the right environment to meditate. However, the best way to achieve desired results is to find an effective meditation technique for your situation or needs.

Since every individual is unique and has personal goals when thinking of mediating, the approach will vary. It is also worth noting that you can meditate using improvised apparatus and still achieve desired results. You can mediate in a group or as an individual. All you will need to achieve the desired results is to identify your goals and the best way to hit them with the resources available.

Concentration is one of the most effective techniques when meditating. You are required to focus on a single point, repeated sound, position, action, etc. With a burning candle, you can focus on the flame and still achieve inner calmness. Listening to the repeated sound of a gong or counting beads on a rosary or necklace will still be effective.

It proves difficult for most people to focus on a single point or idea at the beginning. Experts suggest that the concentration duration be increased gradually. The best duration to meditate is thirty minutes at most. Do not entertain emerging ideas but simply let them fly away. It takes time for you to master this.

There is another effective method called mindful meditation. This is almost the opposite of concentration. You will be required to let your mind freely think through ideas. While the mind wonders and ignites all manner of thoughts, take a mental note of the emerging ideas. This method helps you to appreciate the dynamic nature of your mind and the beauty of its thoughts. It is the best way to attain mental balance and allow ideas to flow from your mind without judging them as good or bad.

Stillness is advocated whenever you meditate. To help you achieve body and mental stillness, it is recommended that you engage in an activity that puts you into a cycle. Slow motion movements, walking, humming, listening to constant melody are some of the options available. These are hacks that you can achieve without the need for expensive apparatus or facilitation.

In case meditating alone proves difficult, you may consider the option of guided meditations. This is by experts who have put together resources and techniques for targeted situations and goals. The resources can be obtained from shops or downloaded online. The most common resources for guided meditations are music, sounds and narratives. You can even do it over the phone.

Meditating helps you to deal with the hectic modern life that is full of stress. It enables you to achieve inner calmness which increases your inner potential and reinforces positive thoughts. The calmness achieved when you mediate makes it easier to understand your inner self. You do not have to meditate for hours to achieve desired results. A few minutes on the floor, sited at the park, walking, etc will deliver the desired results.
